This course is intended for students who have already completed Advanced Digital Cameras – Beginners to Intermediate and wish to reinforce and extend their learning. It is also suited to people who feel confident with their cameras and would like to participate in some practical lessons to extend their skills.
The course is structured into five practical workshops. Topics and themes will include macro photography, portraits with and without flash, advanced flash techniques with flashes on or off the camera, how to shoot and merge images as panoramas, nighttime photography techniques with and without tripods and flashes. Digital photography is so intrinsically tied to the editing process that you can’t really consider doing one without doing the other so this course will also include learning about the six critical editing skills that photographers need to master.
The course will include a mid-week evening session photographing around Hobart waterfront and the Tasman Bridge. There will also be three Saturday daytime sessions at Kingston Library – Learning Centre and one Saturday excursion to the Botanical Gardens.
Students will need an advanced digital camera with full manual override for key settings such as shutter speed and aperture. An external flash is recommended for the flash photography sessions, but some loan flashes will be available. Students will also want to bring a laptop to some classes and we will be using free open source software for editing but the skills taught are easily applied to whatever editing software you prefer to use.
Students will have the opportunity to use and learn about accessories such as macro-lenses, accessory flashes, and various filters. A tripod is recommended for this course, but loan tripods can be made available.
